Marquisele (Mikey) Mercedes is a writer, creator, educator, and doctoral student from the Bronx, New York. As a Presidential Fellow at the Brown University School of Public Health, she is broadly interested in how racism, anti-Blackness, and fatphobia have shaped health care, research, promotion, and training. Alongside a group of incredible fat activists, Marquisele is also a host of the podcast Unsolicited: Fatties Talk Back. She is often quoted in media outlets like Gizmodo, the Washington Post, and Popular Science for her expertise and speaks regularly about anti-fatness on panels at conferences, university groups, and community-serving organizations. Most recently, she authored the lead piece for Pipe Wrench Magazine's Fat Issue: a critical dive into the true realities of medical and societal fatphobia.
