Intimate Partner Violence and Eating Disorders: Where they Intersect and Clinical Considerations

with Ericka Leonard, MSW, LCSW-C

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than 10 million adults in the United States experience domestic/intimate partner violence each year. Additionally, multiple studies have found that eating disorders are associated with a high prevalence of IPV. This training will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of intimate partner violence, the emotional, physical, and psychological impact that it has on survivors, with particular attention to the intersectionality of IPV and eating disorders. Furthermore, the training will explore ethical and clinical considerations unique to treating eating disorders in this population. Participants will leave armed with a better understanding of intimate partner violence and how to use evidence-based and trauma-informed practices when treating eating disorders in IPV survivors.
