The Immigrant Experience: how generational trauma and xenophobia play a role in eating disorders, disordered eating and body dysmorphia in the Latin American and immigrant community

with Alice Figueroa Nuñez MPH, RD

The objective of this presentation is to discuss access to culturally-humble eating disorder services for Latin American immigrants in the United States. This presentation seeks to explore how language barriers, xenophobia, racism, and discrimination limit access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment tailored to meet the needs the Latinx/Latine population. It will also review current research on Eating Disorders diagnostic tools and interventions in Spanish and Portuguese created to address the needs of Latinx/Latine patients.
